MOONLIGHT
WANDERINGS
by S.Y.
Everhart
It is not the sunshine or the moonlight
in and of itself
that captures the awe in me.
It tugs at me at night.
Underneath the cool sheets, I lay
watching the moon glide across the sky,
and it tugs at me.
I ponder the curious fact
that one's surrounding
as much as one's state of mind
creates perspective
of all things
on all levels.

It is not the sunshine or the moonlight
in and of itself
that captures the awe in me.
It is the way their light shines on familiar trees
and rises above majestic mountains.
The ones I've known since birth.
Such harmony when earth meets sky
in the land that one loves.
And how lonesome that full moon appears tonight
when I gaze upon it in a foreign land.
Yet I know it is fine.
I know it is the same sturdy moon
that has graced the night for centuries.
Rather, it is I,
the one looking up from a new angle,
who is different.
