DAUGHTER
Jeanette Cheezum

My swollen body ripened your
soul
Then one day when it was complete
You arrived pink and pretty.
You as a toddler, I couldn’t have been
prouder. We laughed and snuggled
Not knowing you would have
to learn to be the middle child.
Teen years took us all by surprise,
drinking, drugs and all those lies.
Mother and daughter have stacked
a wedge of heartbreak and tears. You
didn’t want my wisdom or my love.
I have saved it though, for the time when
you realize it’s always been here waiting.
You’re still not happy no matter what you
do. Poor choices, quick decisions and never
ending pain. Surround your world, what’s to
gain?
My arms are open, my heart in rhythm
hoping to repair the soul I created.
Praying destiny will turn around
my daughter, pink and pretty.
