GUIDELINES
FLASH
by
Valerie Legare

A lone, familiar flash in the early
cooling night,
I see her glimmer,
her futile cry for company.
In search of her own
but alone
I guess.
Lost in privacy as the night
absconds with her.
A lonely,
thinning glimmer.
Here,
then there,
a passage of past,
a pleasure of present.
A symbol of freedom, and warmth,
now
too
quickly
ebbing.
In search of her own,
but alone,
I guess.
How sad for her to be
the last firefly of
summer.
