What is your Query
Package?
This
service provides an Opinion and a Proofread of your
query letter, as well as tips on finding a reputable
agent.
Will
you review my first chapter, or my first three chapters
only?
We will.
Simply calculate the word count
and make
your reservation.
Is
your service open to published authors?
Absolutely. We work with all authors, from the beginner
to the seasoned pro.
Why
are book
Proofreads subject to
approval? Constructing a manuscript is similar to
constructing a house. It
comes together in stages. Proofreading is the final one. If we
find weaknesses in the structure (plot, characterization, pace,
etc.), we would be wasting your money and our time to focus first
on the paint (spelling, punctuation and grammar).
How
long do I have to wait for a Proofread? We are always reading and/or writing. As
soon as we begin reading your work, however, the wait is reasonable: Projects up to 10,000 words -
5 to 30 days.
10,001 to 45,000 words - 30
to 60 days.
45,001 to 75,000 words - 60 to 90
days, depending on length.
Over 75,001 words - 90 to 120 days,
depending on length.
How long do I have to
wait for Opinions? We are always
reading and/or writing. As
soon as we begin reading your work, however, the wait is reasonable: Projects up to 10,000
words - 30 days.
10,001 to 45,000 words - 60 days.
45,001 to 75,000 words - 60 to 90 days.
Over 75,001 words - 90 to
120 days, depending on length.
Do you
accept rush jobs?
We do. The cost of a rush job is an additional $50.
How much
do you charge?
Our fees are based on word count. Determine your fee, per ReadingWriter, on the
Fees
& Reservations
page.
How
do you determine the number
of ReadingWriters assigned to a particular manuscript?
You, the author, decide how many eyes
will peruse your work.
If you prefer particular ReadingWriters,
check
availability
prior to making your reservations.
Do
I need to reserve my ReadingWriters before I pay and
submit?
No. When you submit your manuscript and pay the fee, you
have reserved your ReadingWriter(s). You will then receive confirmation
of that
reservation. This is our contract with you. We ask that you
approve the terms, via email, before we commence to reading.
Do you accept manuscripts outside the US?
Indeed. We work with writers all over the world.
I
was a finalist in one of your contests, but I'm not listed on the
results page anymore. Where will I find that?
Sorry, the
Previous Contest Results page is updated every three months. When the
results are removed, they are gone for good. Excluding the winner, of
course. To capture this page at any time and save it as a
file,
go here for instructions.
Which rights
do I surrender if I
enter your writing contest?
Excellent question. You will find the
rights at the bottom of our Contest
page.
If you still have questions after reading them,
ask. And by the way, this applies to
all writing contests out there. If you can't find the rights, or don't
understand the guidelines, write to the hosts to request clarification. Never enter your precious work in a contest
without knowing what you may be giving away.
Are you professionally connected with any
literary agencies?
No. Although we know many fine agents, we don't
work with, or for, any of them. We're here to help get your manuscript
ready for submission. And when the time comes, we'll gladly point you to
resources that list reputable literary agents. But we don't make
recommendations. That is for you to decide.
