What
do I get in a Proofread? A Proofread
focuses on your writing
technique: spelling,
punctuation, grammar and clarity. Each
error is marked in blue, immediately followed by the
correction in bold red. You'll have no problem understanding
our edits.
What do I get in
an Opinion? An Opinion
focuses on your content. To us, your manuscript is a painting.
First, we
approach it and simply absorb it. (Read it from beginning to end.) Second, we
move up close with a magnifying glass, honing in on each
chapter. (Does it contain a story? Does it contain a clear
structure? What works? What doesn’t?) Third—the lengthiest
portion of the Opinion—we step back and analyze the entire
project. (Page by page, identify the strengths, the
weaknesses and, most importantly, the solutions that will make
your manuscript sell.)
How
do you determine the number
of ReadingWriters assigned to a particular manuscript?
For a Proofread, you need only one ReadingWriter. For Opinions,
you have no
limit. You, the author, may reserve as many ReadingWriters as you like. If you prefer particular ReadingWriters, please check
availability
prior to making your reservations.
Is
your service open to published authors? Yes. We are pleased to read the works of both the published
and the unpublished.
How
long do I have to wait for a Proofread? We are always reading and/or writing. As
soon as we begin reading your work, however, the wait is reasonable: Projects up to 10,000 words -
5 to 30 days. 10,001 to 45,000 words - 30
to 60 days. Over 45,000 words - 60 to 90
days, depending on length.
Why
are all book
PROOFREADS subject to
approval? Constructing a manuscript is similar to
constructing a house. It
comes together in stages. Proofreading is the final one. If we
find weaknesses in the structure (plot, characterization, pace,
etc.), we would be wasting your money and our time to focus first
on the paint (spelling, punctuation and grammar).
How long do I have to
wait for Opinions? We are always
reading and/or writing. As
soon as we begin reading your work, however, the wait is reasonable: Projects up to 10,000
words - 30 days. 10,001 to 45,000 words - 60 days. Over 45,000 words - 90 to
120 days, depending on length.
Do you
accept rush jobs?
Yes. If you're up against a deadline, please let us know
prior to making your reservation, not after the fact. In some cases,
a rush
job can be handled at no extra charge. For a quote,
submit the details of your project.
(Word count, service needed, deadline.)
How much
do you charge?
Our fees are listed on the Fees
& Reservations
page.
Do
I need to reserve my ReadingWriters before I pay and
submit? To make
your reservations, you simply pay the fee and send your
manuscript. You will then receive
a confirmation that includes all the details of your
reservation.
